One of rarest birds in Aotearoa, the Hihi / Stitchbird is a medium sized forest dweller endemic to the North Island. Having become extinct on the mainland in the late 19th century, the only naturally surviving population is today found on Te Hauturu-o-Toi in Auckland’s Hauraki Gulf.
