You may have noticed elsewhere on our website, we tend to steer away from the phrase ‘dark roast’ and opt for ‘more developed’, simply because the colour of a roast doesn’t necessarily mean that it is ‘more developed’. Some beans are inherently darker.
A "more developed" coffee roast refers to how far along the coffee bean has progressed in the roasting process—essentially, how much it has been roasted beyond the first crack, and whether it has approached or passed the second crack. Different coffees suit different roasting profiles, depending on many factors such as their origin, varietal, altitude, and how they were processed.
