About Kara Knight: Born and raised in Calgary, Kara spent her childhood and youth adventuring with her family in the Rockies and other wilderness spaces. In 2006, while working at her first lodge on the central BC coast, Kara was introduced to Spey casting. Over the next several years, Kara immersed herself in steelhead fishing and Spey casting on rivers like the Thompson, Bulkley and Kispiox. In 2012 she moved north to the Skeena Region and also secured a position managing a lodge on the Dean River, where she stayed for 10 years.
At roughly the same time, Kara was invited to participate in the annual Jimmy Green ‘Speyorama’ casting competition in San Francisco, which further deepened her passion for Spey casting. She has since competed 9 times, securing podium standings nearly every year she has attended. In 2024, Kara won the Women’s event for the first time, and did so again in 2026, while also setting a new Speyorama record for Women’s Longest Cast (157 ft). She will be attending the World Fly Casting Competition in Italy this summer for both single & two handed events.
Kara has continued to work at several prominent fly fishing lodges, including The Palometa Club in Ascension Bay, Mexico, and has continued to develop her fly casting skills, both single and two-handed, over the years. She now looks forward to passing this knowledge along to others through instruction.
