The 4th Cavalry Regiment served in the Vietnam War primarily through its squadrons, with the 1st Squadron attached to the 1st Infantry Division and the 3rd Squadron attached to the 25th Infantry Division. The regiment's units engaged in extensive combat operations, including "search and destroy" missions, route security, and convoy security, using armored personnel carriers and helicopters to provide rapid-response capabilities. F Troop, 4th Cavalry was activated later in the war and served as an air cavalry troop with the 25th Infantry Division, being one of the last Army units to leave Vietnam in 1973.
