This striking 1952 airmail semi-postal issue from Albania honors three iconic figures of freedom and resistance — Franklin D. Roosevelt, Gjergj Kastrioti (Skanderbeg), and Winston Churchill. The stamps were released by the Albanian government-in-exile, known as the Komitetit të Qindreses (“Committee of Resistance”), and not by the communist regime in Tirana. They symbolize the fight against totalitarianism and celebrate the enduring spirit of independence. The top right variant is a 1965 overprint “In Memoriam Sir Winston Churchill 1874–1965,” marking Churchill’s death and adding historical depth to this politically charged issue.
