When unsealed gaps become pathways for noise, dust, and temperature fluctuations, the solution needs to be fast and expansive. RLA Foam Filler delivers a high-volume, airtight seal that transforms cold, draughty cavities into insulated, quiet spaces. It's the right fit for sealing large voids and achieving immediate environmental control.
Why this product exists
This high-expanding, fast-curing polyurethane foam is specifically designed to tackle gaps, joints, and cavities that static fillers cannot adequately address. It creates an airtight, moisture-resistant barrier that significantly reduces noise intrusion, cold air, dust, and draughts in a single application. Unlike traditional fillers, RLA Foam Filler offers dynamic, high-volume expansion to fill large and irregular voids, providing multi-functional benefits like insulation, noise reduction, and an airtight seal with rapid curing.
The numbers that matter
- Expands up to 45 times: This extreme expansion volume allows a single can to fill significant voids, making it efficient for large gaps and irregular cavities where other methods would require multiple products or applications.
- Skins in 15-30 minutes, full cure in 24 hours: The rapid skin time allows for quick subsequent work or adjustments, while the 24-hour full cure ensures the foam achieves its maximum structural integrity and sealing properties promptly, minimising project delays.
- Temperature resistant from -40°C to 80°C: This wide operating range means the cured foam maintains its insulating and sealing performance in Australia's varied climate extremes, from freezing conditions to intense summer heat.
- Water absorption 1% by volume: A low water absorption rate ensures the foam provides a reliable moisture-resistant seal, preventing dampness and associated issues in the filled cavities.
- Ozone-friendly: Formulated without propellant gases, this product supports environmental responsibility without compromising performance.
What it's like to use
Before application, ensure surfaces are clean and free from loose debris. Lightly dampen the area with water; this significantly improves adhesion and accelerates the curing process. Shake the can thoroughly, then attach the application tube. Invert the can and apply pressure to the trigger, filling cavities to approximately one-third capacity to allow for full expansion. For larger voids, apply in stages, allowing each layer to skin before adding more. Uncured foam cleans easily from non-porous surfaces with a solvent-moistened cloth. If spilt on textiles, allow it to fully cure before mechanical removal.
Where this product excels
RLA Foam Filler delivers robust performance across diverse construction and renovation tasks where effective sealing and insulation are critical:
- Glazing and Joinery: For fixing and insulating door and window frames, creating an airtight seal against thermal transfer and external noise.
- Masonry and Building Penetrations: Ideal for filling and sealing gaps, joints, and cavities in brickwork, concrete, and plasterboard, including penetrations for services.
- Plumbing and Electrical: Provides insulation for water pipes and electrical outlets, helping to reduce condensation, noise, and draughts around service entries.
- General Sealing: Effectively seals various building surfaces including timber, galvanised steel, aluminium, and compressed cement-sheet, preventing dust, draughts, and pest ingress.
Choose this when
- When needing to create an airtight, moisture-resistant seal in gaps, joints, or cavities.
- When insulating door and window frames to enhance thermal and acoustic performance.
- When filling large or irregular voids efficiently with a high-expanding material.
- When seeking to reduce noise, cold, dust, or draughts in interior or exterior applications.
Don't use this when
- Not for: Areas subject to foot or vehicular traffic, as the foam is not designed for load-bearing applications.
- Not for: Immersed environments or constant water exposure.
- Not for: Structural load-bearing applications; it provides insulation and sealing, not structural support.
- UV exposure: Cured foam will discolour when exposed to ultraviolet light. For outdoor use, paint or coat the foam to protect its appearance and longevity.
- Temperature: Do not apply when surface or ambient temperatures are below 5°C or above 30°C, as this can affect yield and curing times.
