These two finely engraved stamps from the Republic of Austria’s “Famous Austrians” definitive series honor notable national figures. The 1973 2 Schilling stamp portrays Ferdinand Hanusch (1866–1923), a pioneering social reformer instrumental in establishing Austria’s labor and welfare policies. The 1974 4 Schilling stamp features Karl Kraus (1874–1936), a celebrated writer, satirist, and critic renowned for his sharp social commentary in Die Fackel. Both stamps, designed by Otto Stefferl and engraved by Alfred Nefe, exemplify Austria’s tradition of high-quality portrait engraving and historical commemoration.
