Coffee is 98.75%. That's why having the best water makes the best cup of coffee. Thanks to advanced technology, the ENA 8 can communicate with the filter to recognize whether it has been inserted. Once inserted, the ENA 8 automatically activates the appropriate mode and continually collects information about the filter. It alerts the user when the filter capacity has been exhausted, which makes changing the filter easy and allows the CLEARYL Smart mini filter to achieve optimum effectiveness. Automatic Filter Detection and Communication

To enable the filter and coffee machine to communicate, JURA uses modern RFID technology. Any machine fitted with the intelligent water system (I.W.S.) recognizes when a filter is inserted, automatically switches to filter mode and starts the rinsing process. When the filter capacity is nearly used up the machine prompts the user to change the filter. If the filter is not changed, the machine activates descaling mode. After a certain amount of use, the user is prompted to descale the machine.

Standard tap water contains all varieties of impurities, among them are calcium and magnesium. Unless you are using softened, filtered water (or a special filter cartridge such as Clearyl), your Super Automatic espresso machine's boiler is lined with scale. The heating element draws the minerals out of the water and bakes them onto itself, literally forming rock inside your machine. This creates for you all sorts of problems such as reduced water flow and shortened life of the unit. Regular replacement of the Clearyl Smart filter ensures the removal of chlorine, lead, aluminum, and copper for a better tasting coffee. A special organic additive also removes almost all calcium carbonate, the villain behind scale build-up.
