These commemorative stamps were issued to mark the 10th anniversary of the Treaties of Rome (1957–1967), which established the European Economic Community (EEC) and Euratom, foundations of today’s European Union. The design depicts the Palazzo Senatorio on Capitoline Hill (Campidoglio) in Rome, the historic location where the treaties were signed on 25 March 1957. The architectural scene symbolizes European cooperation and unity. The set includes two denominations — 40 Lire in brown and 90 Lire in rose — printed by the Italian State Printing Office.
