In Piepmatz you skillfully play bird cards from your hand to collect seeds and birds at the feeding place. Seeds and pairs of birds in your collection earn points. Single birds only score if you have the most of their kind. The game flow is the same for all numbers of players. In one turn you go through these three phases in order:

1. Play a card — Select a bird card from your hand and place it face up on a seat of your choice.

2. Solve effects — Compare the birds on the ground with the bird on the perch. Get a seed card or add a bird to your collection. Move a bird to the feeding area.

3. Draw new cards — Replenish your hand.

The game ends when you have to draw a card from an empty feeding deck. The game continues until all players have had an equal number of turns. Each player now chooses two bird cards from their hand and discards them face down. Once all players have done this, add your remaining two bird cards to your collection and the scoring begins. You earn points for seeds, pairs of birds and majorities of species. The one with the most points wins.
