What a great letter.
From this particular vantage in history, Bishop Tucker [1849-1919] was a man much ahead of his time. He warned of the white / English bias of the normal way of doing missionary work. He opined, "We are pretty convinced in our mind that we have everything to give and nothing to receive; everything to teach and nothing to learn; moreover we find it very difficult to believe that there is anything good in the pagan races of Africa."
He was an earnest Evangelical and spoke at and attended Keswick.

Very Dear Mr. Wilson,
Many thanks indeed for the kind invitation to Keswick this year. I am very sorry however to say that it is impossible for me to be there. I shall (D.V.) be on my way back to Uganda if not actually there. This of course will be a great joy to me. At the same time a matter of regret that I cannot be with you at Keswick.
May the Lord ****** "showers of blessing!"
Yours in Christ,
Affectionately,
Alfred Tucker
Bishop of Uganda.
