Based on the original story by Shotaro Ishinomori, "Android Kikaider" aired on the NET (now TV Asahi) network from July 1972 to May 1973, in the midst of the transformation boom." The series was based on the theme of "an artificial man struggling between justice and evil," and was a huge hit, drawing attention to such characters as the guitar-playing artificial man Jiro, the asymmetrical design of Kikaider that expressed his imperfect conscience circuits, and the evil hero Hakaider, who appeared in the latter half of the series.
