Vitalii Kyianytsia Trio
Description:
The debut album by Ukrainian pianist Vitaly Kianizia Trio, a trio of musicians whose refined melodies are spun by the fluidity of their pianos. At the age of 17, he became interested in jazz, initially gravitating toward Oscar Peterson, Bill Evans, Chick Corea, and Herbie Hancock. Later, while studying jazz in Kiev, he also learned classical composition. However, the road to becoming a jazz pianist was a long one, and after graduation he first became immersed in the field of new music: in 2017, he was invited by the Ensemble Modern in Frankfurt, where he played for a year, and then spent another year studying new music in Stuttgart, leading him to Berlin, where he is currently based. to Berlin, where he is currently based. Although he initially moved to Berlin for new music, his passion for jazz was reawakened, perhaps because of the large number of jazz musicians in the area.Bassist Johannes Fink is a well-known musician on the Berlin scene, having performed with such renowned musicians as Alexander von Schlippenbach, Kurt Rosenwinkel, the Kühn brothers Rolf and Joachim, and Aki Takase. Kianizia emphasizes, "Johannes plays a very special instrument, the five-string cello bass, which has a very specific timbre." Drummer Matthias Ruppin is Austrian, but has been an integral part of the Berlin scene for many years, playing in the band Scopes, the Tobias Meinhardt Quartet, and the Daniel Veltlinger Quartet, for example. This work is full of sophisticated and brilliant melodies. The trio's final piece, "Spring Sprint," is a breathtaking performance.
