Description:
A richly emotional performance of C.P.E. Bach by Rachel Podger and Christiane Bezeidenhout. C.P.E. Bach by Podger and Bezeidenhout] The first CD by Rachel Podger and Christian Bezeidenhout, who often perform together in concert, is a collection of works by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach. The G minor sonata at the beginning was written when he was still in his teens and is based on his father Johann Sebastian Bach's Flute Sonata BWV 1020, but there is a strong possibility that it is a work of Emanuel's or a study with his father. In this work and in Wq. 71, also written in his teens, Bezuidenhout plays the harpsichord, which is very different from the fortepiano, and he creates lively music with Pogger's violin in a performance that is unique to his strong commitment to its expressive power. In the other three pieces written during the composer's mature period, the violin and fortepiano sing well together, and the richly emotional expression more than brings out the characteristics of the work, which is called a multisensorial style, while leaving a clean aftertaste, resulting in a wonderful sense of balance.
