Description:
German musician Stephan Micus, active with ECM since the 1970s, has shaped music by taking instruments from around the world out of their cultural, historical, and traditional contexts and fusing them in new ways, and this is his 1992 recording. This album features a combination of dilruba (a stringed instrument associated with Hindustani classical music), suling (lead flute of the Balinese gamelan orchestra), nay (the final flute of the Middle East (West African harp)), kortholt (German Renaissance reed instrument), steel drums (associated with West Indian calypso). The music has been described as "like the sound of all celestial bodies revolving in the looming space into which the universe is sucked."
