Montréal is a fascinating city. It is a place of harmonious contrasts, blending tradition and modernity; a veritable tower of Babel where ethnic communities thrive, and where daily living is, quite frankly, elevated to an art. Just what is it that makes Montréal unique in North America? Nine photographers try to answer the question by offering us a vision of their city which, let’s not forget, is also an island. For Montréal boasts many facets that are revealed through its architecture, nature, arts and crafts, places of worship, and most of all, its people – born here and coming from away. I am Montréal recaptures the best images presented during the Montréal Festival of Lights in February 2003 and on display on McGill College Avenue in the summer and fall of 2003.
